New Discovery Bricks™ are constructed of Class 3 OSB exterior layers, with two 30mm polystyrene coatings on a composite wood core. Bricks are made in various shapes which are joined male to female, interlocked and industrially glued together. Exterior walls are fastened to a galvanized steel channel rail which is bolted to a floating raft of reinforced concrete. Interior walls are interlocked with exterior walls creating a structure that has an earthquake rating of ten.

This revolutionary method of construction is very simple to work with. Bricks are manufactured in straight, cross, Tee and angled pieces which snap easily into place.

“Simply put…New Discovery Bricks™ are built of wood and insulating foam in shapes similar to Tetris and interlock like Lego blocks.”

The technology gets the job done 75% faster without the need of cranes or large work crews. New Discovery Bricks™ are produced in standard pieces and shipped as a complete package. A house in a box is ready shipped to be built in less than eight weeks from start to finish with very little additional materials needed.

New Discovery Bricks™ is truly a revolution in the building industry. The technology incorporates all of what is good from current building methods and eliminates all of what is bad from those methods.

  • New discovery bricks™ are as strong and energy efficient as ICF’s but are 75% quicker to build with and 25% cheaper.

  • New discovery bricks™ are as quick to assemble as SIP’s and are just as energy efficient but require no heavy equipment to assemble and are more resistant to eathquakes and extreme weather.

  • New discovery bricks™ are similar in cost to timber frame structures but 85% more energy efficient, more resistant to earthquakes and require less man power to assemble.

Benefits of polystyrene and class 3 OSB

Polystyrene

  • Polystyrene insulation is a type of rigid foam insulation commonly used in residential and commercial settings. It has an exceptional ability to insulate against noise and extreme temperatures.
  • Polystyrene is waterproof and long-lasting.
  • Impervious too many pests such as ants, termites and rodents which can cause structural damage to an ordinary wood frame home if left unchecked.
  • Polystyrene insulation can be recycled, thus reducing landfill waste and easing the demand for new petroleum stock.
  • The rigid insulation can't sag or shift.
  • The R-value remains very stable over time and is minimally affected by moisture.
  • It is a durable, non-irritating, inert material which is highly resistant to mildew and will not rot.
  • Suffers little or no effect from water or water vapor. Even under the most adverse and rare conditions of total prolonged saturation it maintains its shape, size, structure, cohesion and physical appearance. The effect on the insulation value is minimal.
  • Contains a flame retardant and will retreat from the flame source and self extinguish.
  • No emission of such gases as hydrogen cyanide or hydrogen chloride.

Class 3 OSB (oriented strand board for structual use)

  • Unlike steel or concrete, OSB is made from a completely renewable resource -- small-diameter, fast-growing trees.
  • As the only truly renewable building material, wood is increasing its reserves every year.
  • OSB uses selectively prepared new wood strands during its manufacturing process and is recyclable into other products.
  • The fiber for OSB is grown in sustainable forests and tree farms.
  • Resin binders and waxes are completely cured and stabilized, so there is no measurable off-gassing from panels.
  • The manufacturing process uses nearly 90% of the log, with the balance used to supply energy.
  • It takes far more energy and resources to produce steel, concrete or other building materials than to manufacture a New Discovery brick.
  • Scientifically designed to meet or exceed strict standards for environmental compliance, set by regulatory authorities.
  • When compared by weight, wood is used more than all plastics, metals, and concrete combined.
  • Pound for pound, wood is stronger than steel because it has a more favorable strength-to-weight ratio.
  • Analysis of earthquake damage in California and Japan revealed that panel sheathed wood frame structures fared better than did masonry and concrete buildings.
  • The use of OSB in construction has grown to 22.1 million cubic meters - that's enough to circle the earth 46 times.
